# Beagle Grooming Guide
Grooming a Beagle keeps the coat healthy, catches skin issues early, and reduces shedding around the house. Here’s a practical schedule and the tools that actually work.
## Coat Type
Moderate — consistent year-round with heavier periods in spring. This determines brushing frequency, bathing schedule, and seasonal care.
## Brushing Schedule
Brush at least 2–3 times per week, daily during seasonal shedding. Use a slicker brush for the topcoat and an undercoat rake for the dense undercoat. Pay extra attention to areas behind the ears, under the belly, and along the tail where mats form first.
## Bathing
Bathe every 6–8 weeks with a dog-formulated shampoo. Over-bathing strips natural oils and causes dry, flaky skin. Always brush thoroughly *before* a bath — wet mats are nearly impossible to remove.
## Nails, Ears, and Teeth
Trim nails every 3–4 weeks; you should not hear them click on hard floors. Check ears weekly for redness, odor, or excess wax. Brush teeth 2–3 times per week with dog-safe toothpaste — dental disease is one of the most common preventable health problems.
## Tools You’ll Need
– Slicker brush
– Undercoat rake
– Dog nail clippers or grinder
– Dog shampoo (oatmeal-based is safest)
– Ear-cleaning solution
– Dog toothbrush and toothpaste
## Professional Grooming
Most Beagles benefit from a professional groomer every 8–12 weeks for full bath, blow-dry, nail trim, and ear cleaning. Coats requiring scissoring or hand-stripping may need more frequent visits.
